My name is Ronnie and I've been a Special Education teacher for the last 13 years. In 2007 I decided I really needed to be creativeas a way to relieve stress, so I converted an unused section of my basement into a sewing room. I had never sewn more than a pair of shorts in middle-school home-ec, but I was determined to try. I began to scavenge fabrics, scraps, doodads, trims and ribbons from anywhere I could find them and started to experiment. I took apart clothing out of my closet to see how it was constructed. I watched tutuorials online to learn how to put in a zipper and the correct way to do a button hole. I practiced and practiced and Glamarita was born!
Since those early days of working in my basement at 2:00 in the morning until it was time to go to my day job, filling custom orders online through etsy.com, doing booths at street fairs and farmers markets, I've gotten to the point where I realized it was time to make designing my day job. I am opening my very own shop this summer right in the heart of the Garland Business District. The store will consist of mainly my own designs, but I will also be carrying items from other local clothing and accessories designers, artists, photographers, sculptors and other artisans. What will set my shop apart from typical boutiques is that I will be exclusively carrying handmade work by local people, primarily made of recycled matherials, and the designers will be available to consult with clients on custom orders. There's no other shop in town that can provide that service. What an exciting adventure! My clothing is quirky, one of a kind and is made from sustainable/recycled materials. I love to mix color, pattern and texture in my clothes. Each piece is unique, absolutely wearable andwill definately get you noticed.
